Role DESCRIPTION
The position holder will develop technical solutions designs for business problems, utilizing available IT assets. Act as technical lead on IT systems projects, providing and articulating forward-looking technical proposals for implementation either to cover existing functionality gaps or to generate new innovative solutions.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Engage with various teams, ranging from business and the immediate development team who need to understand and buy into the architecture, right through to the extended team of those people who will have an interest in the architecture from a security, database, operations, and maintenance or support point of view.
- Translate documented business requirements into a technical solution design for implementation.
- Leading with development teams to ensure business intent is understood and effectively carried into development phases.
- Collaboratively oversee the development of the solution as per the agreed architecture, evolving it throughout the delivery in the face of changing requirements and feedback from the team.
- Set a baseline through the introduction of standards and working practices such as coding standards, design principles and tools.
- Ensure that the architecture is being implemented consistently across the team through regular code reviews.
- Experimenting by building prototypes, frameworks and foundations to be consumed by the technical team.
- Responsible for making technology decisions by considering all risk factors, and reviewing and evaluating with all the relevant stakeholders of interest.
- Contribute to the Architecture Review Board (ARB) on a monthly basis
QUALIFICATIONS
- Degree in Science/computer science/Engineering/Business related degree from a reputable education institution.
- 3+ technical background in software development inclusive of databases, applications, Infrastructure, and cloud development and 2+ years’ experience in solutions architecture and system design.
- Experience of software development lifecycle is essential, in agile and waterfall methodologies.
- Certification in Solution Architecture and Cloud expertise certification will be an added advantage.
- A “hands-on software architect” capable of sharing software development experience with the rest of the team, which in turn helps them better understand how the architecture is viewed from a development perspective.
- Domain experience in GSM will be an added advantage.
- Strong business acumen and leadership mindset
- Ability to drive initiatives without any formal authority in an ambiguous and startup environment.
- Ability to mentor/coach developers and other solution architects in architecture principles
- Proven track record in designing and implementing large-scale, complex projects delivering IT/Telco customer solutions; demonstrable leadership skills and organizational experience.
- Ability to identify all the non-functional aspects required for deploying a secure and performant solution into production.
- Understanding of Containerization and Kubernetes among modern solution technologies will be an added advantage.
- Understanding of Microservice and Multiple Architecture Design paradigms will be an added advantage.
- Ability to communicate, take complete ownership of workstreams and influence others.

Detailed Description
Reporting to the Principal Architect, the job holder shall develop and maintain end to end Technical Solutions that enable the organization to achieve its mission, vision and values systematically through effective facilitation across multiple technical and commercial stakeholders and the development of end-to-end technical solution architecture artefacts that guide the successful delivery of products and services and technology enablers.
Job Responsibilities
Systems Design
- Participate in the Strategy formulation sessions for both Technology & Commercial
- Develop & maintain the high-level and low-level designs and champion the adoption of leading practice methodologies for system design
- Work with teams to ensure that all technical and commercial compromises with respect to system design are dealt with in a way that minimizes technical debt whilst maintaining BAU delivery.
- Collaboratively oversee the development of the solution as per the agreed architecture, evolving it throughout the delivery in the face of changing requirements and feedback from the team.
- Set a baseline through the introduction of standards and working practices such as coding standards, design principles and tools.
- Execute research and development for system design, and experiment by building prototypes, frameworks and foundations to be consumed by the technical development team
Project Management Overview
- Maintain a High-level overview of ongoing systems design projects
- Champion the implementation of software projects within agreed timelines
Services Architecture
- Define AS-IS and TO-BE services architecture guided by the business plans and ambition indicating integrations, protocols and connectivity details
- Give guidance on integration options for Technical Solutions
- Recommend solutions based on the most efficient architecture
Quality Management
- Ensure the application of best practices in Service Delivery Models
- Drive adoption of ISO and ITIL into systems architecture and integration practices
- Ensure uniform Standards across the integration team
Knowledge Transfer
- Ensure on-the-job training of the relevant teams
- Ensure detailed and standardized documentation practices across the team
- Participate in technical knowledge exchange sessions within the team
Job Requirements
- Degree in Science/computer science/Engineering related.
- Certification in Agile Project Management will be an added advantage
- Certification in Solution Architecture and a Certificate in Cloud expertise will be an added advantage.
- At least 2 years of broad technical background inclusive of databases, applications, Infrastructure, cloud, development, enterprise architecture, solutions architecture and system design experience
- At least 1 year of experience as a developer or systems engineer
- A methodical approach with proven experience designing and delivering complex technical roadmaps
- Understanding of working with 3rd party technology suppliers
- Strong business acumen and mindset
- Ability to persuade stakeholders and to champion effective techniques through delivery
- Ability to drive initiatives without any formal authority in an ambiguous rapidly changing environment
- Ability to guide/teach others in architecture principles
- Working knowledge of all Technical domains in telecoms including VAS, Charging, CRM and Digital Financial Services
- Proven track record for delivery of large-scale, complex projects delivering IT/Telco customer solutions; demonstrable leadership skills and organizational experience.
